چکیده

We nd that recent results from the KamLAND collaboration on geologically produced antineutrinos N U Th events correspond to a radiogenic heat production from Uranium and Thorium decay chains H U Th TW The con dence limit on the geo neutrino signal translates into the upper bound H U Th TW which is much weaker than that claimed by KamLAND H U Th TW based on a too narrow class of geolog ical models We also performed an analysis of KamLAND data including recent high precision measurements of the C n O cross section The result N U Th corroborates the evidence for geo neutrinos in KamLAND data

KamLAND , terrestrial heat sources and neutrino oscillations

We comment on the first indication of geo-neutrino events from KamLAND and on the prospects for understanding Earth energetics. Practically all models of terrestrial heat production are consistent with data within the presently limited statistics, the fully radiogenic model being closer to the observed value (≈ 9 geo-events). In a few years KamLAND should collect sufficient data for a clear evi...

Neutrinos from San Marco and Below

Order of magnitude estimates of radiogenic heat and antineutrino production are given, using the San Marco cathedral as an example. Prospects of determining the radiogenic contribution to terrestrial heat by detection of antineutrinos from natural radioactivity (geoneutrinos) are discussed. A three kton scintillator detector in three years can clearly discriminate among different models of terr...

Revealing the Earth’s mantle from the tallest mountains using the Jinping Neutrino Experiment

The Earth's engine is driven by unknown proportions of primordial energy and heat produced in radioactive decay. Unfortunately, competing models of Earth's composition reveal an order of magnitude uncertainty in the amount of radiogenic power driving mantle dynamics. Recent measurements of the Earth's flux of geoneutrinos, electron antineutrinos from terrestrial natural radioactivity, reveal th...

Whole Planet Cooling and the Radiogenic Heat Source Contents of the Earth and Moon

It is widely believed that the surface heat ftows of the earth and moon provide good measures of the total amounts of radioactives in these bodies. Simple thermal evolution models, based on subsolidus whole mantle convection, indicate that this may not be the case. These models have been constructed assuming an initially h~t st~te, but with a wide varlet~ of choices for the parameters character...

Geo-Neutrinos: a short review

Geo-neutrino detection will determine the amount of long lived radioactive elements within our planet and fix the debated radiogenic contribution to the terrestrial heat. In addition, it will provide a direct test of the Bulk Silicate Earth model, a fundamental cosmochemical paradigm about the origin of the Earth. Unorthodox models of Earth’s core (including the presence of potassium or the pos...
